Italian Food & Weed

from Surreal Talk by Tom Swifty

about

Here's a song that definitely doesn't take itself too seriously. This began with my roommate back in Minneapolis telling me her friend said, "Whenever I come over here, the whole apartment always smells like Italian food and weed," and I thought, "Oh, that'd be a good hook for a club banger, just shout that phrase over and over again." When I heard this beat by Sleep Less Do More, my old friend from DRS who is also one half of the production duo Strange Matter (strange-matter.bandcamp.com), I knew it was the one. This is also the song featuring my alter-ego, Son Flair, who is featured on the cover art and in the bonus video, "The Rize and Fall of Son Flair." The homie Jason Volk pointed out that that's exactly what Son Flair would do: he's a guest on one track and he demands to be on the cover, by himself. Our voices are really similar (wink, wink), so if you can't tell, he's the one rapping the slower parts of the verses.
