Money's Propaganda (feat. Son oV Sam & Carnage The Executioner)

from Spare Thoughts by Tom Swifty & Tha TruthTella

about

I met Son oV Sam at a Brooklyn screening of a documentary about Twin Cities rap legend Eyedea made by Brandon Crowson, a friend of mine from film school. Sam was born and raised in BK, but he told me his favorite rapper was Eyedea, and I knew I had to get him on a track. The first one he appeared on ended up being the Posse Cut from later in this album, but then I got the opportunity to get Carnage The Executioner on this one and I decided Sam should join us. Carnage is another legend from my hometown scene who used to frequently collaborate with Eyedea, and who I've known since I first started out rapping in the TC over a decade ago. I love the way Hip-Hop can bring people together like this.

lyrics

SON OV SAM:
Money money, these rappers claim gully gully
No warring faction they master is buddy buddy
Now you looking like 69 in the pen
Cause every time you lose a dollar you end up losing a friend
Imma bruise and offend all you noobs who attend
How you sign a 360 you look stupid again
40 acres and a mule for a Sambo ass nigga
Uncle Sam looking at you like you Rambo assed nigga
I want money like Abba with less stamina
I want money like Pamela less managers
Now ya wallets like 99 of the problems
22 was the catch with 90 cent worth of product
Mo money the mo problems you get
If you never heard from Big than you'll probably regret
I don't really understand insurmountable debt
That powder room shit that got Wesley sniped over it

HOOK:
They try to make you climb the ladder, try to take ya shine,
Sayin it's a waste of time, but it's all a waste of time
Whatever it is, kid, reach for the sky, and remember:
Do or do not, there is no try
They don't respect you 'less you speak that proper grammar
They be callin it conscious rap, but I like it kinda gangsta
For what's right you know you gotta get up, stand up,
But money was, is, and always will be propaganda!

TOM SWIFTY:
I see beyond the tunnel vision of the sleepy, sheepish masses
I'm reminded your mind's been blinded so rewind and put on the glasses
Ain't on no gangsta rap shit, but I will say fuck a snitch
If you turn ya homie in, that's what makes you an accomplice
I promise I'd never call the cops for nothin short of rape,
And even then I'd do something myself before they arrive late
Obey, Consume, and Stay Asleep on every billboard, it's true
You watch TV so much you can't see it's watching you
Data-mining everything you hear or touch or see
Puttin advertising into hidden scenes inside your dreams
You might believe you be controlling destiny,
But that's a testament, you see, to how well they hide the seams
Lady Liberty, stupid bitch lied to me
I oppose this propaganda violently
Money is your god and it demands a sacrifice,
So you throw away your dreams and punch that clock for half your life.

HOOK

CARNAGE THE EXECUTIONER:
You tried shaming me...
Because I left my city to bargain with my artist gift
Now askin’ how many attend in markets that I’ve targeted?
...Then I’ll become a jerk, when I tell a promoter
A door-deal for a 10-hour drive isn’t gonna work
Even excelled in how to crush cowards
As an expert, who studied for ten-thousand-plus hours
Time is money to come with real life topics
If you ONLY stream for free it kills my pockets
Tried to be a home owner couldn’t afford the mortgage had to
Abort it, now, they’re inclining my rent
Gotta be wealthy to eat healthy, want to have a salad
Mad ‘cuz a burger & fry is only ninety-nine cents
Abide by the law so I don’t become a fatality
At the hand of a cop with a salary paid by my family
What happens on our soil? Embarrassin’ scenes
American SCHEME? Or American dream?!
