Next Contestant / Encore

from Surreal Talk by Tom Swifty

about

I originally wrote the first long verse of this song as three verses that a hook could go between, possibly over a much slower beat, but then I started doing this version live, where I just spit all three verses in a row over MCCRD's wonderfully upbeat track from his instrumental album, Listening for Hope When Looking Yields Nothing. Eventually I just decided this should be the song. The verse after the break is similarly mashed up from the two verses of my Death Ray Scientific song, "Older and Stronger" (spymc.bandcamp.com/track/older-stronger-ezra) minus the hook. I'm very proud of the last line of the last verse on my last album: "I flow quick so my soul don't get cold when I expose it."
