about

I think this is the prettiest song on the album. It has a great melancholic feel and a killer hook. Some of my favorite work from Tha TruthTella (and that's saying a lot), and some of my best rhymes.

lyrics

VERSE 1:
Her daddy raised her, till that word became its homonym
She should have a champion belt the way she fought with men
Keeps her outside pretty polished while she rots within
Smoke plenty trees, but she ain't down with chopping them
A green girl, trying to make the world last
I swear the sun winked at her as we hurled past
World-class words fall bluntly from her mouth like she purled that
Scars tell a dark story traced across this girl's back
She's goin far from home with tales of astronauts and throwing stars
Broken bars around her heart and now she's prone to start shit
Focused all of her attention on the market,
Now she makes her living keeping books straight for the art department
Take time, it was written waist high on the ceiling
Of her mind, but she didn't listen--life's unkind
Now she hides herself in her room just to unwind
Smoke in the air, curtains drawn against the sunshine.

HOOK: That's just the way it goes... [x4]

VERSE 2:
She's a queen getting schemed on by pawns and rooks
Who judge her story by the picture on the book
Like light, she's a fixture at the coffee nook,
Sketchin portraits of the hipsters, cops, and crooks
I stopped to look, not knowing I was rubber-necking,
Didn't see the train wreck yet, but I was checkin
If she had a second to listen to the words that I was spitting,
I was smitten and she had me in a headspin,
So we broke bread with coke-heads known to tote lead,
While they promote dread, she spoke of hope instead
Poured liquor to toast dead friends with eyes the most red, then
She'd tilt her head back to drink while her nose bled.
Her close friends and foes will sure spread more
Stories than a wrecking ball, yo, what are friends for? (friends? foes?)
She got caught, but the trap never broke her,
Even though now I pour out liquor to toast her.
